Bush's $2.77 Trillion Budget Plan Calls for Medicare Cuts - New York Times

OK, how stupid is this?

"As with Social Security and Medicaid, we do not need to cut Medicare, but we do need to slow its growth, and this budget begins to do just that," Mr. Bolten said at a televised briefing.

Really, really bright there. Just when the baby boomers are about to enter the age range where they're eligible to receive Medicare benefits, we're going to cut back the growth of Medicare. So we're going to have MORE and MORE people on Medicare, but we're going to spend LESS and LESS.

It's bad enough that Medicare only pays a PORTION of SOME of the medical services that one might require (I should know -- I'm disabled, and I'm on Medicare, and you really don't want to see the bills I get in the mail from my medical service providers). But now, we're going to have MORE people getting Medicare, with LESS money being provided by the government to pay for what Medicare does cover.

Absofuckingbrilliant (tm)!
